April 24-25, 2008: Hinckley Institute Director Kirk L. Jowers will give a presentation on "The Making of a President: The 2008 Election" at the Utah Hospitals and Health Systems Association's annual Dialogues in the Desert in St. George, Utah.

March 15, 2008: Hinckley Institute Director Kirk L. Jowers gave the lecture "The Political Forecast: How the Current Political Climate will Shape the November Elections” at the Granite and Jordan School District's Campaign for the Campaign: Fostering Civically Engaged Student.

March 6, 2008: Hinckley Institute of Politics Intern Manager Courtney McBethparticipated in a round-table discussion entitled Body Image of Male and Female Athletes at the University of Utah Tanner Humanities Center conference Mirror, Mirror: Body in the Mind's Eye.

March 5, 2008: Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk L. Jowers spoke at the Exchange Club at the Salt Lake County Complex regarding the 2008 elections.

February 22, 2008: The Hinckley Institute of Politics hosts a conference featuring Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt and the Utah Partnership for Value Driven Care.

February 5, 2008: Hinckley Institute of Politics staff help staff the University of Utah Heritage Center voting location.

Hinckley Institute Director Kirk L. Jowers and Executive Assistant Bryson Morgan presented on The Electoral College and The Road to the White House: 2008 to a group of AP U.S. History students at the Utah State Capitol. The event was organized by Congressman Rob Bishop (R-UT) and featured several presentations on American government.

Hinckley Institute to Operate U of U Voting Location: The Hinckley Institute of Politics is proud to announce their official sponshorship of Salt Lake County's Partners in Democracy Program. As a sponsoring organization, the Hinckley Institute will operate the Chase N. Peterson Heritage Center voting location for the 2007 primary (Sep. 11th) and general (Nov. 6th) elections.

September 20, 2007: "News: Votes "R" Us" by Ted McDonough (SL Weekly)..." For September’s primary election, three groups became official sponsors of Salt Lake County polling places: Manpower Temporary Services, the Applied Technology College and the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, where students touted the Partners in Democracy concept to fellow students."

Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk L. Jowers spoke at the Grand Edventures conference in Salt Lake City, Utahh on September 7th regarding the 2008 Presidential Race and recent political news.

August 23, 2007: "Building children's dreams - in a day" by Katie Drake (Salt Lake Tribune)..."That's where Kristen Jowers came in. A mother of five, three of whom attend Legacy, Jowers took the lead in finding the school a playground. She had heard about the grants from KaBOOM and Build-A-Bear and decided to apply. Though rejected for the April build schedule, her second attempt was successful and plans went into motion."
August 23, 2007: "Community works to build playground" by Sarah Ryther (Davis County Clipper)...“My kids were playing Uno every single recess,” said parent Kristen Jowers. “There were a lot of parents complaining about the school not having a playground. I guess I thought, ‘You know, we should stop complaining and just do something about it.’” And that’s just what the parents did. Headed by Jowers, the group of parents became determined get the school and students a playground.

Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk L. Jowers moderated a panel discussion on America at a Crossroads(PBS) at the Salt Lake City Library on Tuesday, April 17th, 2007. Panelists included Dr. Ibrahim Karawan (University of Utah Middle East Center, Dr. Peter VonSivers (University of Utah Department of History), and Brett Tolman (United States Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice).

Kirk Jowers spoke at the Nexus Law Journal Symposium, “Dead Man Walking? Buckley v. Valeo and Campaign Finance after Randall v. Sorrell” at the Chapman University School of Law in Orange, CA regarding his latest law review article: “The Struggle to Regulate the 527s: Through the FEC, Congress, and the Courts.”

February 16, 2007: Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk L. Jowers appeared as a guest on Utah Now on KUED: Can a Mormon be the President?, Channel 7 (PBS).

December 6, 2006, 12:00 Noon. Hinckley Institute of Politics Intern Manager Courtney McBeth addressed the Women's State Legislative Council at the their holiday luncheon at the Cottonwood Country Club on the subject of the current state legislature.

November 29, 2006, 12:00 Noon "Observed Changes in Climate, their Causes, and What it Means" (S.J. Quinney College of Law, Sutherland Moot Courtroom). The Hinckley Institute of Politics joins the S.J. Quinney College of Law in welcoming Kevin Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research to the University of Utah.

June 6, 2006. The Hinckley Institute is co-sponsoring the University Neighborhood Partners’ Partners in the Park: Summer Nights Kick-Off event at Tanner Park. This event provides opportunities for friendly and informal interaction between the University and the west side community and encourages youth to think about the importance of higher education. 

May 16, 2006. Hinckley Institute Director Kirk Jowers and Intern Coordinator Courtney McBeth will meet with a six-member delegation from Kosovo to discuss accountability and ethics in government and business. 

April 11, 2006. The Hinckley Institute of Politics and the S.J. Quinney College of Law will host a forum titled, The Fordham Debate on Terrorism

Hinckley Institute’s Intern Manager, Courtney McBeth, will present her thesis, “The Impact of Political Internships on Civic Engagement,” at Harvard University’s National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement Conference.

January 2005. Courtney McBeth, Hinckley Intern Manager, will moderate a panel at the annual Campus Compact dinner on “How to bridge direct service to political engagement.” Panel members included former SLC Mayor Ted Wilson, Senator Karen Hale, and Representative David Litvack. 

December 5, 2005. The Hinckley Institute of Politics and the ASUU Presenters Office are excited to announce that Ben Stein will speak at Kingsbury Hall on Monday, December 5th, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are free and can be picked up at either Kingsbury Hall or ASUU.

October 27, 2005. Hinckley Institute of Politics' Marshall Hendrickson will moderate debates for South Salt Lake City Mayor and City Council seats. The debates were sponsored by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and the South Salt Lake PTA. The debates will take place in the Granite High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm.

October 12, 2005. Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk L. Jowers was a panelist in the Salt Lake City Freedom Forum entitled: Freedom to Criticize Government. The Forum took place on Wednesday October 12, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the Salt lake Library Auditorium. The forum will also be broadcast live on KCPW. For more information click here.

September 22, 2005. Hinckley Institute of Politics Intern Manager, Courtney H. McBeth moderated debates for South Salt Lake City Mayor and City Council seats. The debates were sponsored by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and the South Salt Lake PTA. The debates will took place in the Granite High School Auditorium.

June 14, 2005. The Hinckley Institute of Politics, University of Utah Neighborhood Partners, and Alumni Association hold the Carnival in the Park Extravaganza. The event allowed the Westside community to meet with local politicians in a fun and interactive atmosphere.
