Washington, D.C.
“I was excited to be able to be an intern, but
I had no idea how much I would learn about politics our nation’s
capital, and about myself. It was an incredible experience that I would
recommend to everyone.” –Emily Jardine, Senator Robert
F. Bennett, Summer 2002
The Hinckley Institute boasts one of the nation’s longest standing DC internship programs dating back to 1965. The Hinckley Institute provides over 100 students annually with full-time, paid internships in a variety of government institutions, public advocacy groups, and media and consulting firms. Hinckley interns are provided internship scholarships to cover expenses, subsidized housing at the Consulate Apartments, and academic credit.
General Information and costs

Occasionally, the Hinckley Insitute allows non-University of Utah students to stay in the student apartments for $700/month. All students are required to pay a non-refundable $100 maintenance fee before they occupy the apartments.
- Students should understand the costs associated with a DC internship and budget accordingly. Here is an online calculator to help students budget costs.
