Our nation’s
capital offers diverse learning opportunities in the form of government
institutions, public advocacy groups, and media organizations. Students
have taken advantage of these opportunities through the Hinckley Institute
of Politics’ internship program for nearly 40 years.
Internships are available for Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters.
Financial AID
All Washington
D.C. Interns are given a scholarship of approximately $800/month. Some internship offices pay additional scholarships.
Housing
Subsidized housing is available
through the Hinckley Institute at the Consulate Apartments for only $350/month.
Four students share a two-bedroom, furnished apartment. Occasionally, the Hinckley Insitute allows non University of Utah students to stay in the student apartments for $675/month. All students are required to pay a non-refundable $100 cleaning fee before they occupy the apartments.

Academic Requirements
Washington, D.C. Interns may receive up to 12 hours of Political Science 4900 "Political Internship" credit for full time (40 hours/week) internships. Students must register for the credit during the semester of the internship. Interns are graded according to the following assignments and criteria:
-Research Paper (most significant part of the grade)
-Book Review
-Supervisor evaluation of intern
-Student evaluation of internship
-Meeting Attendance (intern orientation held prior to departure,
and mid-semester meeting held in Washington, D.C.

Interns placed with the United States Congress attend committee meetings
on Capitol Hill, manage constituent correspondence, and perform other
staff work. The Hinckley Institute of Politics places interns with
