Public interest advocacy
"We cannot safely leave politics to politicians, or political economy to college professors. The people themselves must think because the people alone can act." - Henry George
Public Interest Advocacy is a student directed project in the Bennion Center that was set up to work with political systems to bring about positive social change. It's a very flexible time commitment and we welcome any time volunteers are willing to give.
Some things we are going to work on the 2007-2008 academic year include:
- Increase student attendance and lobbying efforts at the Legislative Session
- Partner with Utah Progressive Network (UPNET) to work on issues like immigration, comprehensive sex-ed for public schools, and LBGT issues
- Help students understand the root causes of the problems in society
- Deal with issues on the campus, city, county, state, and national level
