Scholarships & Financial Aid

The Hinckley Institute of Politics provides over $720,000 in academic and internship scholarships to University of Utah students. Academic scholarships are offered once an academic year and internship scholarships are awarded to students who are accepted to international and Washington DC internships. For students doing a local internship there are a limited number of local internship scholarships available.

The Hinckley Institute of Politics provides more than $55,000 in academic scholarships to students through the following scholarship funds:

The Hinckley Institute is also the University of Utah representative for two prestigious national scholarship competitions:

The Hinckley Institute also offers a low-interest loan program for students at the University of Utah called the Bill Rishel Loan.

The Hinckley Institute provides internship scholarships to students completing International, Washington, DC and local Hinckley internships.

International
Due to a generous donation from Asian philanthropist Li Ka Shing, students participating in a Hinckley Institute of Politics International Internship are eligible for an international internship scholarship.  The goal of the international internship program is to provide students experience in global public policy, service, business, and politics as well as foster greater understanding among peoples, cultures, and governments.

Students may apply to receive an international cash award scholarship through the Hinckley Institute ranging from $500 to $5,000 to assist with tuition, travel, housing, and living expenses.

Washington DC
All Washington D.C. Interns are given a scholarship of approximately $800/month and subsidized housing. Some internship offices pay additional scholarships. 

Local
Students doing a local internship are invited to apply for a Dan Jones Future Leaders, Margaret Rampton, and Pete Suazo Local Internship scholarships.  Scholarships are limited in number, students must apply .  Interns will receive scholarship funds after internship has been completed.  Applications are generally due the last day of classes of each semester.
