INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The University of Utah offers global internships in a variety of fields in South Korea. In coordination with the University of Utah Asia Campus, students will live at the U Asia campus in Incheon and have the opportunity to socialize with UAC students and participate in events and activities.  Students will complete full-time internships in a variety of nonprofit, business, or international organization.  Depending upon the organization, students will assist with various projects, conduct research, and provide administrative support.  Students will have the opportunity to interact with career professionals and visitors from around the world. Intern tasks will be assigned based on the student’s interests and background.  


DESCRIPTION

Students will have the opportunity to work in a business, nonprofit, or government office in Seoul or Incheon, South Korea..  Students will assist with various projects, conduct research, and provide administrative support.  Students will have the opportunity to interact with career professionals and visitors from around the world.  Intern tasks will be assigned based on the student’s interests and background.  


LANGUAGES

There is no language requirement. 


ACCOMmODATIONS

Students will stay in the University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) housing in the Incheon Global Campus in Incheon, South Korea. Students will be able to participate in UAC activities and events, and engage with the other 250 UAC students. This living and learning environment will provide for a true global learning community.

FUNDING

International interns are eligible to apply for the Hinckley Global Scholarship offered through the Hinckley Institute. Information can be found here. The Hinckley Institute also offers a low-interest loan program found here. In addition to funding through the Hinckley Institute, scholarships are available through the Center for Learning Abroad.


DATES

Internship dates may vary depending upon location but are based around the academic calendar:

  • Fall Semester: September-December
  • Spring Semester: January-April
  • Summer Semester: May-August

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Students are required to register for a minimum of 3 HNKLY credit hours and a maximum of 12. International interns are required to submit 4 reflections and 10 weekly updates throughout the semester, as well as write a final policy paper, which is due 4 weeks after the end of the semester.


ORIENTATION

Students are required to attend a pre-departure orientation, which provides cultural and safety training and explanation of academic requirements. Students also meet with the program manager upon returning from the internship.
