Alumni Spotlight
Jake Tonks's career was significantly defined by his two-semester internship in Washington, DC through the Hinckley Institute, where he joined the Google Election's team supporting political campaigns and their digital advertising strategies in the 2014 midterms.
Reflecting on his time in DC, Tonks's favorite memory is his very first night in the city. Dining with fellow interns, he remembers "the energy was infectious - we were all excited to be there and support each other."
After returning to Utah, Tonks graduated with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. He then worked in business development and technology at Snapchat and Axios, and is now helping transform the legal industry at Harvey AI. While working full-time, Tonks added law school at night, recently earning his J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center. This fall, he will start as an Associate on the corporate team at Morrison Foerster in Washington, DC specializing in Corporate Transactional work.
Tonks appreciates the Hinckley Institute for providing an internship experience that allowed him to build relationships with mentors who guided his career. "I always felt the Hinckley Institute and those involved felt personally invested in my success. The Hinckley internship program set me up for my professional career. It gave me the footing I needed to be successful in DC and connected me with great friends and mentors who have aided my time after graduation. Everything I have been able to do since graduation, including law school, can be traced to that opportunity."
