Elevate has two main programs in Asuncion, Paraguay: Elevate Business and Elevate English

Elevate Business is a socially innovative business management and financial literacy training company. Elevate works with banks in emerging markets to provide their borrowers with personalized and holistic training. Elevate Business interns have the opportunity to work in many different capacities and have a hands-on, life-changing experience.

Elevate English interns are the heart and soul of the English schools in Paraguay. Interns are trained to use Elevate’s simple and unique methodology to teach different classes in a variety of locations. As a teacher, you are the key to a positive and successful learning experience. Paraguay can be your setting for a real-world experience where your efforts will make a big difference. The Elevate English internship is a challenging but rewarding opportunity to help English students realize their potential.


Elevate Business offers internships in various disciplines

  1. Media Specialist
    1. Capture the educational movement and lives of our students and staff through different media:
      1. Video recording and editing
      2. Graphic design
      3. Photography
      4. Social media
  2. Finance and Accounting
    1. Work directly with the General Manager to assist with management of the finances and basic accounting for the company.
  3. General Operations
    1. Gain a diverse experience working alongside the local management team, taking charge of a variety of activities: interfacing with providers, recruiting, logistics, creating reports, and more.

Elevate Business also offers longer term (6-10 months) fellowship opportunities

  1. Financial Institution Jr. Account Manager
    1. Work directly with our partner organizations (banks, MFIs) whose clients we train, managing relationships and operations
  2. Field Operations “Elevatero”
    1. Work as a field business consultant, providing accountability and Elevate’s tool-based training to our students, and mentor local Elevateros
  3. Research / Data Analysis
    1. Collect and analyze data to create reports to study the effects of financial literacy training and business education.

Elevate English: In addition to teaching English, interns will be involved in other parts of the business such as marketing, design, product creation, social media, business administration, human resources, curriculum and content development. Take a break from school to teach others!


Elevate Interns receive:

Spanish is preferred, but not required for most positions. Interns and fellows receive Spanish training in the field.

English is required - excellent verbal and written communication skills


Housing, food, internet, phone, and work-related travel will be covered by Elevate.

International interns are eligible to apply for the Hinckley Global Scholarship offered through the Hinckley Institute. Information can be found here. The Hinckley Institute also offers a low-interest loan program found here. In addition to funding through the Hinckley Institute, scholarships are available through the Center for Learning Abroad.


Internship dates may vary depending upon location but are based around the academic calendar:

  • Fall Semester: September-December
  • Spring Semester: January-April
  • Summer Semester: May-August


Students are required to register for a minimum of 3 HNKLY credit hours and a maximum of 12. International interns are required to submit 4 reflections and 10 weekly updates throughout the semester, as well as write a final policy paper, which is due 4 weeks after the end of the semester.


Students are required to attend a pre-departure orientation, which provides cultural and safety training and explanation of academic requirements. Students also meet with the program manager upon returning from the internship.
