Dr. Stephen O. Andersen is a leading environmental scientist and economist, and was a main architect of the landmark Montreal Protocol, one of the most successful and impactful environmental treaties in history. The 1987 Montreal Protocol phased out use of 95% of the world's ozone-depleting substances, mainly chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were on track to destroy two-thirds of the stratospheric ozone layer by 2065, threatening crop yields and human health across the globe. Dr. Andersen played a key role in bridging the gap between science and diplomacy, collaborating with the Reagan administration to forge this international agreement. Andersen was born and raised in Logan, Utah, and studied Business Administration at Utah State University.
