If an internship in your hometown is approved by the Hinckley Institute, you can qualify for Utah residency.
Steps to seek approval:
1. Secure a Substantive Internship
Find an internship opportunity in your hometown that
aligns with your academic field and professional goals.
2. Apply for Internship Credit
Submit your internship application on the Hinckley
Institute website after securing your position. See link below.
3. Schedule a Meeting
Meet with the Hinckley Institute’s Managing Director
of National Internships to review your internship plan.
4. Supervisor Verification
The Hinckley Institute will contact your supervisor to confirm:
Internship location, weekly hours, and start/end dates
Substantive duties and a dedicated workspace
A plan to complete a final evaluation of your performance
5. Receive a Letter of Support
Once all information is verified, the Hinckley Institute will provide a letter of support for the Residency Office.
Things to Remember:
Complete all five steps before submitting a residency application.
Only internships that meet the criteria will be considered for residency.
Direct all residency-related questions to the Residency Office.
Internship Requirements:
Internship must clearly relate to your academic major and provide a meaningful, professional experience.
You must work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the summer semester.
Enroll in HNKLY 4902-002 through the Hinckley Institute
Complete five course assignments over the duration of the semester.
