There are a number of impactful ways students can get involved with the Hinckley Institute on campus.
Learn More
The Hinckley Institute's primary mission at the University of Utah is to connect students from across campus and disciplines to life-changing internships.

We offer four different internship tracks:

  • Local internships are available every semester and allow students to remain in Utah and continue taking classes at the U while they participate in a part-time internship. The Hinckley Institute connects students to internships with a range of government offices, non-profits, and businesses across the Wasatch Front. Local internships are a great option for first or second-year students and those looking to make valuable professional connections in Utah. Learn More.

  • DC internships are located in the nation's capital and provide a unique opportunity for students to live in the newly remodeled Orrin G. Hatch Center with a cohort of other Utah interns. This full-time, paid experience offers internships with government offices, public policy organizations, advocacy groups, and media firms. This transformative experience is offered each every semester, however the application process is competitive and best suited for experienced and highly-motivated students. Learn More.

  • The Global Intern Program is the most comprehensive, prestigious, and affordable international experience available at the University of Utah. This internship track is available to all students every semester and maintains connections with host offices around the world while offering students substantial financial aid and scholarships. The goal of the global internship program is to provide students with full-time, global work, cultural immersion, and career development. The Hinckley Institute sends students to various nonprofits, businesses, governments, think tanks, and NGOs across the globe. We can also help students set up their own global internships. Learn More.

  • The Legislative Intern Program is available to students of all majors, but runs only during spring semesters. This internship track employs students as full-time, paid staff to legislators, lobbyists, and government offices during Utah's 45-day legislative session starting in late January. Intern work includes tracking legislation, speech writing, committee meetings, researching issues, and analyzing bills while working at the state capitol. Legislative interns are not able to take on-campus classes during this session due to the full-time work schedule. Learn More.
