Alumni Spotlight

Jace Jordan’s experiences with the Hinckley Institute have proved to be very impactful in shaping his academic and career trajectory. A 2022 graduate of the University of Utah, Jace double-majored in Political Science and International Studies, with a minor in Russian. His connection with the Hinckley Institute began in the summer of 2021, when he completed an internship in Washington, D.C., with the American College of National Security Leaders (ACNSL).

This pivotal experience gave Jace the chance to work alongside military generals, ambassadors, and national security experts, providing him with unique insight into the workings of a policy think tank. He also gained invaluable mentorship, which strengthened his confidence and leadership skills.

My experiences provided an unparalleled opportunity to work personally with leaders shaping U.S. national security, helping me develop the expertise and conviction to embark on a similar career path.

When Jace returned to Utah, he had the opportunity to extend his role beyond his initial internship. He collaborated with ACNSL and the Hinckley Institute to organize a panel on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, hosted at the University of Utah. This hands-on involvement deepened his understanding of international policy and broadened his network.

Among his favorite Hinckley memories are personal interactions with influential American leaders, from conversations at the Army-Navy Club and National Press Club to meetings in their homes. These moments brought history to life and turned mentors into lifelong friends.

Jace credits his Hinckley experience as the foundation for his post-graduate accomplishments. After graduation, he was selected as a Critical Language Scholar, representing the U.S. in Kyrgyzstan. He later pursued a master’s degree in Finland, where his research on European security and representation at the European Parliament in Strasbourg was deeply informed by the policy analysis skills he developed through his Hinckley involvement.

My time with the Hinckley Institute has profoundly shaped the academic and professional experiences I have had after my time at the U…for me, all of these experiences can be directly tied to the life-changing opportunities I had through the Hinckley Institute.

Jace embodies the Hinckley Institute’s mission of providing life transformative experiences through civic engagement and the Hinckley Institute is proud to list Jace as a distinguished alum.
