Ontological security, or the need for a feeling of personal continuity and order through time and space, is a concept that originated in psychoanalysis and sociology, but has increasingly made its way into other disciplines including International Relations and Political Science. This roundtable discussion includes three scholars who helped bring ontological security as an approach to and research community for studying ontological (in)security in global politics. The roundtable explores discuss ontological security, and how it has been applied to understand and grapple with a host of urgent global issues, including climate change, security dilemmas, pandemics, protests, financial crises, migration, populism, and humanitarian intervention, among other topics.
