This event is presented by the University of Utah Veteran's Day Committee

In honor of Veteran’s Day and presented with the University of Utah Veteran's Day Committee. As Fort Douglas prepares for its next chapter, we look back at its storied past.

Presenter:

  • Fred Esplin
A native Utahn, Fred Esplin grew up in Cedar City. His family still runs a cattle ranch on the North Fork of the Virgin River. He graduated from Southern Utah University, received his Master's degree from the University of Utah, and taught communication courses at both the U and Penn State. His education includes graduate study at American University and a White House internship. Fred spent most of his career in public broadcasting, including positions with the Public Broadcasting Service, the Pennsylvania Public Television Network, WITF-TV-FM in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and KUED in Salt Lake City. Until his retirement, Fred was Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of Utah from 2006 to 2019.

Mr. Esplin has been dubbed an "unofficial university historian" for his passion for local, university, and state history and has lectured on the history of Fort Douglas several times before. We look forward to hearing from him.
