Alumni Spotlight

Marcia Foote has built an impressive career in the concierge and event planning industry over the last 25 years. Her first experiences with event planning came from a congressional internship in Washington, DC with the Hinckley Institute!

While at the U, Foote participated in the Hinckley’s Washington, DC internship program during the fall of 1987 and interned with Congressman Ron Packard, 43rd district of California.

Living in a metropolitan city like Washington, DC helped Foote learn how to be independent as she found herself navigating a big city with a massive public transportation system for the first time. Her internship experience also taught her important life skills.

I was taught time management skills, how to participate in team meetings and functions and most importantly how the decisions made on a congressional level really impact the constituents of the district.

Foote had a number of great experiences during her time in DC, but her favorite memory was getting to meet former Utah Senators Jake Garn and Orrin Hatch at a congressional reception to which interns were invited to attend.

During her internship, Foote helped plan many events and formed relationships that led to full time employment in the DC area after she graduated from the U in 1987 with a Political Science degree.

I became a concierge/event planner.  I have maintained that career and have owned my business for over 25 years.  My original business, Intercontinental Concierge Services, was located in Washington D.C and employed over 90 people.  Since that time I have had accounts in over 10 states and am currently headquartered in Salt Lake City.

Foote’s clients have included Simon Property Group, Howard Hughes Corporation, CenterCal Properties and the Winter Olympic Games. Foote has also appeared in Who’s Who Outstanding Young Women of America and has profiled in major publications such as the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post!
