"The Hinckley Institute of Politics has played a pivotal role in my life and my career trajectory. I can say without a doubt that I would not be where I am today if it was not for the Hinckley Institute of Politics and these two scholarships. They played a major role in my ability to attend the University of Utah as an immigrant and a first-generation college student. More importantly, my Washington, DC internship at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Hinckley Institute of Politics gave me an opportunity that ultimately paved the way to where I am today. The Matheson Leadership Scholarship is especially important to me. Mrs. Norma Matheson stayed in touch with me throughout the years. She was an extremely special person who really cared about the students she interacted with. "

“I think about my time at the Hinckley  and I have the best memories of those internships and the Suazo scholarship helped me so much at that time because I was not working. It had gotten to the point that I needed to stop working so I could take my last courses and graduate. Now I am a mom to three kids and I secretly wish they stay in state when their time comes to go to college.. we still have time to make them UTES”

Megan Daigneau

2016, Senator Pete Suazo Leadership Foundation Scholarship Recipient

"As a junior at the U, I worked more than full time to pay for school while still needing to take out student loans and receiving departmental scholarships...The Suazo scholarship coupled with the paid internship through the Hinkley Institute with Utah Health Policy Project made a huge impact on my studies and future career. It was game changing. The paid internship and scholarship resources gave me enough room to breathe financially so I could focus on school and my internship work while also building a foundational love for public sector work.  I graduated with honors in Spring 2017 and have been working in the public sector ever since.
